The 10 Best Buffet Restaurants in Cape Town Where We Savoured South Africa’s Culinary Influences!

Cape Town is rich in cultural heritage, which means in most restaurants, there’s a fusion of flavors and influences from various cuisines. I want to taste as much as possible but without breaking the bank, so I stick to buffets (no shame in that).

Luckily, the city has plenty of all-you-can-eat spots. Armed with my wallet and antacids, I made it my mission to round up the best ones (so you don’t have to).

Here are some of the best buffet restaurants in Cape Town where you’ll taste all of South Africa’s culinary influences!

MOYO Kirstenbosch offers a modern twist on African flavors as you dine at the foot of Table Mountain and soak in the beauty of the Botanical Gardens.

Every Sunday, feast on an array of African-inspired dishes, like hummus, salads, beef stew, pap, and more. The place also allows you to stay up to three hours, giving you ample time to taste what they offer.

I keep returning for their peri-peri chicken, even if it’s not a Sunday (they offer it on their regular menu). The chicken is grilled well, and the peri-peri sauce gives it heat and tanginess.

As you dine, you can also vibe to live African music. Plus, during special celebrations, ceremonial traditions like face painting highlight the artistic expression of the Xhosa people.

I’m a fan of their chicken biryani. The dish has a rich blend of spices, and the chicken tenders were cooked perfectly. And for dessert, I always go with their delightful chocolate cake, filled with smooth, creamy chocolate ganache.

Tip: Making a reservation is necessary in this spot, as it gets crowded especially during lunch and dinner time.

As a meat lover, their roast beef will always be the highlight of my visit. It’s tender and flavorful, and the herbs and spices balance it perfectly. I always pair it with their rice and vegetables for a well-rounded, satisfying meal.

Their Sunday Carvery Buffet features a three-course feast with a modern spin on traditional South African flavors. Prepare to taste old-fashioned starters, like whole wheat bran bread and butter and karoo pumpkin stoep soup.

The highlight for me though, is their lineup of desserts, particularly the steamed malva pudding. It’s moist and has a caramel-like sweetness. It’s easily one of my favorite sweets, especially with its Van der Hum custard that adds a velvety and citrusy note.

Tip: Visit the side room so you can pick your cuts of bread and meats. It also works as a wine cellar, allowing you to taste finer Constantiaberg and southern peninsula wines.
