Have you ever felt the refreshing change that camping can bring?

Ruah Park sits in a lush green valley, bordered by a nature reserve and filled with the soothing sounds of streams and dams. The private campsites have stunning views, with wood-fired hot tubs on some stands.

I’ve spent time walking along the nature trails, spotting small game, and hearing the call of birds all around. If you enjoy fishing or a peaceful nature walk, this spot offers a great mix of both.

Pro Tip:
The nearby Dinokeng Game Reserve offers Big 5 sightings, while Arlington Brewery provides a craft beer experience. For something different, Mystic Monkeys & Feathers or the historic town of Cullinan are also just within the vicinity.

De Rust offers a peaceful setting along the banks of the Pienaars River, shaded by indigenous trees within a Big 5 game reserve. The park is small with 33 stands, each equipped with water, electricity, and a braai, ensuring a comfortable and secure stay.

I stayed at one of the dam-way stands, which had easy access to water and electricity. My favourite part was the birdwatching; I spotted several kingfishers, including the rare half-collared species, right from my stand.

Pro Tips:
If you plan to bring a lap dog, make sure to confirm with the park in advance, as prior arrangements are required. Check the terms and conditions.

Be aware that there are no fences around the campsite, as it’s part of a Big 5 reserve. Exercise caution and be mindful of the wildlife in the area.

River stands may experience flooding during heavy rains, so consider this when booking. Bush stands are generally safe from such flooding.

Pro Tips:
The park’s appearance varies with the season. During the dry season, water conservation may affect the greenery, so don’t expect lush grass until the rainy season.

To maintain tranquillity, please keep noise to a minimum between 10 PM and 8 AM. If your neighbour can hear your music, it’s too loud.
