Yosef’s Gearbox Repairs, also known as Brad’s Auto Repairs, clearly knows their way around a transmission. They’ve been around for over 25 years, which showed in how they quickly diagnosed my truck’s issue. 

Their diagnostic process was thorough. Unlike with other workshops, the crew didn’t just guess and swap parts but explained what was wrong, what needed fixing, and got on with it efficiently.

They also gave me a fair quote upfront and didn’t charge me halfway. Plus, the 6-month warranty on repairs gave me peace of mind that I got quality service.

During December and January, though, it could be hard to book the shop because of high demand, especially for emergency services.

A friend swore by Trec Gearbox and Diff Specialist when my bakkie started acting up last year, so I gave them a shot. Turns out, they really do know their way around gearboxes and differentials, so there’s proper, skilled repairs involved (no guesswork!).

They walked me through the issue, gave an upfront quote, and didn’t pad the bill with nonsense. Plus, their diagnostic tools caught the issue quickly, and they managed to explain the problem to me in plain terms.

It was all very efficient. I could tell they’ve encountered transmission issues like mine often and are prepared to deal with them with skill and expertise.

The only downside is they’re clearly in demand, so don’t expect a walk-in fix and after-hours services. Do what I did and book ahead because it’s worth the wait.

Best Tech Auto in Kempton Park came highly recommended by a neighbour whose transmission started slipping in the middle of traffic. When we checked the shop out, I noticed it wasn’t as flashy as other workshops, but I was impressed with its diagnostics.

The computerised diagnostic scan pinpointed overheating and gear ratio errors, which would have taken longer if the equipment weren’t present. Aside from that, the technicians also did a visual inspection for fluid leaks and dirty transmission fluid.

I accompanied my pal when he brought his car to BTA on Edleen, and the team got down to business with no hemming or hawing. He got an upfront quote and wasn’t pressed by any upsells or hints that other things require repair or overhauls.

I’m also happy to note that Best Tech Auto does 24-hour emergency assistance, including mobile repairs for jump-starts, non-start diagnostics, fuel refills, and other urgent roadside support!

Edenvale Gearbox has been my brother’s go-to for over a decade, and he’s never been let down by the shop. He says Wesley and his team are the kind of mechanics who tell it like it is and fix what actually needs fixing.
